Although pros and cons of the various proprietary and polymer and spray and bake finishes have been discussed elsewhere, I am wondering what the LTW smiths would do for their own personal carry pistols.
Would it be Black T, E-treatment, Duracoat, CobraCoat, etc or the various hard chromes?

My lightweight Commander that I carry wears double plate hard chrome over electroless nickel from Metalife. My IDPA/IPSC match pistol has an E-Treated top end over a hard chrome by Metaloy bottom end.

My current carry guns wear good 'ol bluing... and so will my next one. And if not bluing I'll take my guns hard chromed... two-tones are kind of sexy too.

There are lots of great finishes out there but for me a blued using gun has always proved more durable than I need and the best combination of performance, beauty, and cost.

First off, humidity isn't a problem here at all.

That said, personally I prefer blued pieces.

Or black anodizing on an aluminum frame, if that's the gun of the day.

'Course, I like stainless too...

And hard chromed. Who can resist hard chrome.....

Two toned. Gotta love two toned.......

Wait a minute. This was a trick question, wasn't it? Image

Thank you all for the input to my question.

I'm kind of torn between Hard Chrome (such as Metaloy) and traditional blued guns.

Who does top notch, beautiful, blueing these days like Colt did many long years ago?

Rob S

PS No trick question here Mr. Brian, just wondering what folks who know far more than I do about guns and finishes do in regard to their personal pistols.

"Yes," to your question.
So, this is a testament to a great pistolsmith and to Doug Turnbull's skills.
Beautiful.

Not to highjack the thread, but I love matte blued guns for carry. Can a previously hardchromed gun later be matte blued?

Tim, once again (I saw it the first time, too) I'm suffering vision loss from the brilliance of those slide flats. Simply breathtaking polish and bluing.

Stainless with something to make it black being optional,but... preferable. Chrome sulphide I believe it is, whatever is is though it turns stainless black and I'd say it wears as good as bluing or better, maybe much better.

Or tungsten DLC to blacken it but availability on that is a little unsure at the moment.

Hard chrome can be stripped, and the gun re-finished however you would like.

I prefer bumper chrome on my carry gun.

I know you guys will want some details on this so here they are:
1. Lowered and flared ejection port (can extract live round).
2. Replaced extractor with one stamped out of real steel.
3. Replaced all critical parts with MIM including long lasting frame.
4. Touched up the rifling with my dremel long shaft extention.
5. Reliability package (including test fire!)
6. For superior corrosion resistance, and a fine look, I only use first quality bumper chrome.
7. Open up rear sight notch to include round trough bottom.

I might see if I can get the boys down at YoBo to checker it for me.

I have to say that when I posted this topic, I never expected to get such a great response and see such beautiful pistols. All are exceptional works of art and function (except maybe for the bumper chrome gun). Thank you. There is something in the Bible about "Thou shalt not covet . . ." I'll bet Moses never saw one of these beauties, or there would have been an 11th commandment.

You forgot to replace the grips with multiple wraps of electrical tape.
