This year I had the pleasure of building a prize gun for the up coming Single Stack Classic. As with years past the base gun provided for the project was one of the fantastic Springfield Armory “gun kits” which, as many of you already know, is basically a frame and a slide with some assorted small parts. The oversized kit makes it a pretty fun build... I certainly wouldn’t mind having a few more of these to whittle away on (that’s a hint in case you’re reading this Dave  ).

I wanted to build a gun that I thought epitomized the best blend of the traditional and the contemporary 1911. For me that meant classic touches like hand-cut 30lpi checkering front and rear, bordered slide, short trigger, Kart barrel with match bushing, and a two-tone finish of polished blue over matte hard chrome. All of the other “usual stuff” like a flattened and serrated slide top in the curved arrow pattern, reliability tune, Ed Brown extended thumb safety, S&A grip safety, Nowlin mag catch, Yo-Bo action components, etc. was mixed in as well and I topped the whole thing off with a gold line front sight and one of our Professional Grade rear sights... classic and contemporary. Toss in a classically styled Bulman rig for the photos just to continue the theme and... well you get the picture  ... enjoy!

Once I can finally commision you for a build, it will be a duplicate of this pistol. For my tastes this is perfect. :!:

Yes, a duplicate would satisfy me greatly also. That thing is just beautiful all over. The leather is extremely nice, too.

Sigh...
I'm sure Mr Leatham will love it.

Instead of commenting on your work I've Emailed your boss to the effect that you probably need a raise.

Two semi-unrelated things though- 1: Am I really getting no credit for Shanghai-ing you into this? :D
2: In the future, 1911's pictured with the hammer cocked but the safety off will be impounded:twisted:

OK, I can't help it-- that is super nice Jason, I just can't find a flaw!

Very nice, by the way we all appreciate your continued support of the Single Stack Classic/Nationals. We have just over 300 shooters (including staff), prizes like this make our match the success that it has become. Thanks. Wish I was competing for that prize.

Bill

Nice clean and classic build, Jason. You did good.

Don't let Nedly smear his fingerprints anywhere near it.

Jason, that is just one beautiful piece in every respect! A modern classic.

You better watch that one real close, like even while your shooting a stage, cuz it might fall into my range bag.

From my recollection Robbie has always and only taken the Heinie gun, although I think I remember one time he took the one Dave Williams built, but I'm not sure. Quite a collection to have (every Henie gun produced for the match) and quite a collection to choose from.

Thanks for the kind words guys... I know through out the years this has been a great match and I’m happy to be able to contribute my little bit. :D

I like the idea about the raise... good thinkin'!

And yes, for the record, Ned gets 100% credit for "Shanghai-ing" me into this... didn't take much convincing though... ol' Ned only had to employ a couple of 'arm-bars' and a set of 'thumb-screws'.  Of course if I had said no to Ned I would have caught hell from Jaime... who by the way is thrilled to know that two of her "boyfriends" (Ned and Robbie) will be at the same match. The only thing she has left to decide is who to route for...

That's a really handsome pistol, Jason. It's been a real treat to watch your style evolve and see you turning out work on par with the best!

Too bad I can't be at the SSC this year, I'll miss seeing you guys. Here's hoping for good weather!

Jason,

Very nice work!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm sure the future owner will consider himself/herself to have won twice. Once in the match and once for grabbing a great gun.

Best,

Ray

Very attractive gun. Only thing that would make it better is if you had done silver on top of blue.
