Well, I finally made it onto this forum. My computer was remembering a bad password I typed in (I only use two fingers to type, and can't even control them).

I am happy to discuss pistol smithing, the old days of shooting and any other topics.

Welcome Mr. Behlert,
It is great to have a forum such as this, that us young guys have a place to ask questions of some of the best pistolsmiths that have ever laid a file to a gun.

Thank you for presence. Your knowledge will not go unappreciated here.

Dan Burwell

Welcome, Mr. Behlert!

We hope you enjoy the site. We've tried to keep the focus narrow, just custom and historical guns. Your work fits both rather nicely!

Mr. Behlert, let me extend a huge LTW welcome and say it's an honor to have you here. We're so glad you finally got through!

In any avocation, there will be some relative newcomers who may not be familiar with all the events and people that brought their newfound hobby to its present state. So for those of you to whom Austin Behlert is not a household name, I will just tell you that he is one of the "founding fathers" of custom pistolsmithing as it is today. His services were sought after by high-end pistoleros of every type from the 50's on through to the 90's, and some of the better-known names in the business today were employed in his shop at one time or another. Many, many of the modifications offered today by pistolsmiths are permutations, evolutions, or direct copies of ideas that originated with or were perfected by Mr. Behlert. Personally, he was my first and strongest influence when I started reading about him in the gun magazines in the mid-seventies, and when I was lucky enough to meet him at the '79 or '80 Second Chance Shoot, I confess I was thrilled just about to trembling! I was thrilled again to discover a year or two ago that he was posting on Pistolsmith.com, where he's been a regular contributor and has his own forum.

Austin, I hope you are able to find time to spend some time with us here as well!

Mr. Behlert, it is great to have you here. Looking forward to your posts. I just recently saw a gun you built some years ago and the work was fantastic. Obviously you are one of the pioneers of the business. Thanks again.

Another howdy! Austin Behlert is one of the pioneers in the 1911 smithin' business, and has come up with more ideas than most folks have ever heard of. Many of the aftermarket items we take for granted and buy "off the shelf" were thought up, developed and marketed by Austin and his contemporaries. Good to have your presence here. :)

I have had the priviledge to own 2 Behlert guns. Both works of art. Not to date Mr. Behlert but I was thumbing through my 1962 gun digest and found him listed in the gunsmith section with a New Jersey address.

Welcome Mr. Behlert!
