Are getting creative with photoshop? The first one has a "3" on the trigger guard, the second picture doesn't. Either you photoshopped the "3" out on the second pic or you did two IDENTICAL pistols.

Actually, I think we have matching/multiple pistols. The "3" is missing from the other and if you look at like the notch for the slide release removal, they do not appear to be located at the same place below "CALIBER".

Also, the trigger has more "gap" in the fitting on the first photo.

I agree with mrbieler, two similar guns. Unless my aging eyes are failing, the grip panels (graining) are slightly different when comparing the pictures. Nice pair!

HEY!!! we have a winner. Trumpet I hope you are going to the Shot Show to pick up your gear.

Two identical guns. The grips were made from the same piece of Cocobolo. Just shot them both and the shoot the same...Point of aim and dead on. Now, if somebody built you one gun and then built it's twin would you let the other one get away? I don't think so. Burton has some decisions to make.

Here is some more photos.

The answer to your question Steve......HELLLLL NO!

I'd give up my first born and her college tuition for the twin..... :D

On second thought, maybe not.....

BTW, Steve what kind of mark is that on the barrel bushing? I can't seem to make it out?

Those are King's barrel bushings. That is the King's crown. We use them alot. Very substantial bushing as you can see in some of the pics. Good eye Will.

Easy decision for me, I'll take the bastard child if Jason doesn't want it!

BTW, no consolation prize for the subtle difference in the grips?

Trumpet,
Email me at home s4bailey@qwest.net. I won't be in the shop until tomorrow afternoon.

Brian,
You do get a consolation prize. How about I send you a freshly finished LW Commander in Black T? Won't cost you a penny...........more. :P

I guess when fires up his Commodore 64 he will be able to take a look at his new gun and the possibly soon to be adopted out twin. I have twins...man you can't separate them. Sell the gold teeth Jason, buy a gun, support America. 8) 8)

Well, now I feel like an idiot for my guesses

Oh well, at least I got to see a great pair of Colts made by a true craftsman.

Thanks for the game,
Lenny

Ted, Steve, & Jason,

I must reply again. Simply put... WOW! Steve, I was very impressed by the pair you did a couple months ago. Now this pair... both are unbelievable, and I know the two of you put A LOT of meticulous work into these. Matched pairs are sweet, and done like the ones turned out by the Yo-Bo shop, I would have to say I've never seen better sets.

I know the Pachmayrs were ahead of their time and didn't have the options we now have as far as parts are concerned, but, IMHO, the guns here don't even compare to the Pachmayrs, Swensons, or whatever. The older guns were and still are good guns, but they just weren't dressed out as well and detailed like the cream of the crop guns of today. Modern shooters expect more and the bar is set higher every time a great builder/artist like Ted, Ned, Don, Chuck, etc... turns one out. I used to feel like I missed out (I'm only 28) because I wasn't around to see the old Smith & Wessons, Colts, Brownings, and other classics in their heyday. I felt like the efforts put into building factory guns back then was light years ahead of what is coming out today. Seeing the guns you guys are building and the advancements in parts and materials involved changes that for me. I really thiink the shooters who liked and admired the fit and finish on older guns are missing out on the current "best effort" guns.

Steve,

I really enjoy every post you do. Your photographic skills are great, but the guns you're building are works of art. I believe sometime very soon you'll be one of the "big dogs." You're well on your way.

Ted,

I finally got a copy of the "Complete Book of The 1911." Those guns are just plain classy. I was getting upset about my Colt experiences over the past year or so, but every time I see one of your full-house guns I have to eat my words. You truly do live the message in your signature block.

Jason,

Come to Virginia and bring those beauties. I will gladly supply two cases of ammo to help you break 'em in right. I'm sure we can get them looking well-used by the end of a day.

Kudos to the builder, owner, and photgrapher.

Thank you again for sharing.

~Jim Keeney

Jim,
Thanks for the comments. I just saw a gun by Chuck Rogers that also leaves me a little speechless. I spend as much time on my bench as possible, and still ask stupid questions of Ted. Pairs are a bitch to build but Ted has a knack for pulling it off to perfection.

The Swenson, Pachmayr's, and guns from that era were to that time what the guns you see on LTW are to us. Are these better? Details certainly indicate that they are. But guys like Austin Behlert, Paul Liebenberg, and as far back as the NM guns done by "Fitz" give a strong pedigree to the masters of today like the LTW smiths.

Fortunately for me I get to see guns from C.T. Brian, Chuck Rogers, John Harrison, Don Williams, and the rest of the crew. If somebody in the future is going to raise the bar, they are going to have to be extremely talented, patient and about twenty years old right now. The LTW guys don't show any signs of slowing down.

I am dying to see a gun from Stan Chen, and more from Ned Christiansen. Both of their work will speak volumes in the years to come.

Another "pairs" post may be coming up here tonight if I have some time. 8)

I know, I know!!!

It's really a scale reproduction built to one third size, chambered in 22LR to fit the midgets hands!!!

Am I right?!?!?!
Now that’s funny!!

Damn those are some fine blasters!!! Absolutely beautiful guns!! They’re almost too pretty for a slouch like me. Bravo Theo... bravo!!!

What the hell am I gonna’ do with two sets of identical pairs? I guess I’ll just have to find out.

Ted, we may have some negotiating to do. Can I arm-wrestle you for it? :D

OK, I admit it, ya got me Steve, I didn't pick up on it at all, and I looked hard.

Ted, those are simply gorgeous, immaculately executed pistols. Some day there will be a humanities type course taught somewhere devoted to the custom 1911 pistol. There will be a multitude of periods and genres, to include

Handbuilt factory
Bullseye/Military match
Pre Combat
Combat pioneer/fabricators
Race gun
Modern Carry
Modern Combat
Post Modern
Neo Classic

In the textbook under the last category will be a bunch of pics like the Colts pictured here. Thanks for sharing Steve....

Yoza. Those are like butter! So pleasing to the eye, they make my heart pound. Oh to hold such a fine pair in my hands. To caress their smoothness and see them bounce on my hips….. Ahhhhh one day, one day….ONE DAY!!!!
